Performance Test

It is an indispensable task to test its performance after electroplating, and only products that pass the inspection can be handed over to the next process. The quality characteristics of the plating include plating thickness, plating adhesion, plating hardness, etc. At Alfa Chemistry, we offer the following testing services:

Plating thickness test

The plating thickness measurement is an important part of the electroplating process quality inspection and an important guarantee for the quality of the electroplating products. The thickness of the plating largely affects the reliability and service life of the product. Alfa Chemistry offers various forms of inspection methods, including magnetic induction method, X-ray method, etc.

Plating thickness test

  • Magnetic induction method
The plating thickness is determined by the amount of magnetic flux that the probe passes through the non-ferromagnetic plating and flows into the ferromagnetic metal substrate.
  • X-ray fluorescence method
X-rays are shot onto the surface of the plating layer, producing X-ray fluorescence. Information on the thickness of the plating layer can be obtained based on the intensity of the energy appearing in the fluorescence spectral lines.
  • Other test methods
In addition to the above test methods, we also have electrolytic method, metallographic method, eddy current method and other plating thickness test methods.

Plating adhesion test

Plating adhesion is the strength of the bond between the plating and the base metal or intermediate plating. A prerequisite for successful electroplating is that the metal coating adheres properly to the surface. Alfa Chemistry offers a number of common plating testing services used to determine adhesion.

Plating adhesion test

  • Bend test
Bend test is to bend the specimen under external force to see if the plating is peeling or flaking away from the substrate. Any sign of peeling, crumbling, or flaky flaking is considered poor adhesion.
  • Heat-quench test
Heat-quench test relies on subjecting electroplated parts to elevated temperatures to determine the sufficiency of coating adhesiveness. The appearance of flaking or peeling after quenching is a sign of insufficient adhesion.
  • Other test methods
In addition to the above test methods, we also have chisel-knife test, impact test, peel test, burnishing test and other plating adhesion test methods.

Plating hardness test

Plating hardness refers to the resistance strength of a coating to local surface deformation caused by external forces. It is one of the important mechanical properties of the plating. Many properties of the plating such as wear resistance, strength and service life are closely related to the hardness of the plating. Alfa Chemistry offers plating hardness testing services.

Plating hardness test

  • Microhardness test
Microhardness Testing is a method of determining a material’s hardness or resistance to deformation when test samples are not suitable for macro-hardness. Microhardness testing is ideal for evaluating hardness of surface plating.
  • Nanoindentation test
Nanoindentation is a powerful technique used to quantitatively characterize the mechanical properties of small volumes of material. Nanoindentation testing provides data on the hardness of the plating.

Other plating test

In addition to the above testing services, we also provide a series of services such as abrasion resistance testing, alcohol resistance testing, temperature humidity testing, and cold thermal shock testing. If you have any other testing needs, please feel free to contact us.
